The Nuggets and Timberwolves resumed their rivalry Friday after their grueling seven-game series in the Western Conference semifinals last season. From tip-off, it was evident that the teams shared a healthy disdain for each other, as the players engaged in a lot of showboating and trash-talking in a back-and-forth game that went down to the wire.
Things got a little out of control in the fourth quarter when Nuggets guard Christian Braun posterized Rudy Gobert and taunted the four-time Defensive Player of the Year, leading to a heated exchange.
Braun flexed his shoulders and took a stride toward Gobert's chest, propelling the Frenchman to react angrily by putting his arm on Braun's neck and shoving him away. Almost immediately, players and staffers from both teams, including officials, got involved and prevented the altercation from escalating.

Braun's dunk gave the Nuggets an eight-point lead with 5:13 left in the game, and his team seemed poised to exact revenge on its conference foe. However, a late barrage of threes from Anthony Edwards scripted the Timberwolves' 119-116 comeback victory at home.
After the game, Braun apologized to his teammates for letting his emotions get the best of him, pointing out how the incident derailed Denver's momentum.
"I got to be more responsible," Braun said, via ESPN's Tim MacMahon. "It's two points. Obviously, those are the plays you want to make and those are the momentum plays I want to make, but getting a tech throws the momentum their way, so I got to do a better job of controlling myself."
Gobert, who finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds, brushed off the incident and called Braun "a good kid" who got carried away in the heat of the battle.
"He made a great play and there's always a little adrenaline," Gobert said, via ESPN. "He kind of stepped towards my space and nothing really happened. But it's part of the game ... I have nothing against Braun. I actually think he's a very good player. He's a good kid. But it's a big win for us. And the way we overcame adversity tonight as a group is the type of win that I think makes you grow as a team."
The teams will next face off on Jan. 25 in Minnesota before two more matchups in Denver on March 12 and April 1. If Friday's game was any indication, both teams will turn up the intensity again in their final three regular-season clashes.
