Victor Wembanyama has been completing side quests and working on his game all while staying grounded amid NBA chaos.
The San Antonio Spurs have been one of the most talked-about teams this offseason. They drafted Dylan Harper No. 2 overall in the 2025 draft. Kevin Durant mentioned them as the team he wanted to play for before he landed in Houston. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jaylen Brown have also been seen as possible trade candidates.
Despite all the noise around the organization, Wemby has been keeping himself busy during the team’s offseason. The Spurs’ season ended early as Wemby was ruled out for the season in February, and the team missed out on the postseason.

Shortly after their season ended, Wemby wasted no time, as on April 24, he took time to play soccer with some kids during his trip to Costa Rica.
He was also seen hitting the basketball court there the day before, showing that despite his time off, he still is dedicated to the game that he loves.

He recently went on a 10-day spiritual retreat at the Shaolin Temple, known for Kung Fu and Zen Buddhism. This is considered a “journey of inner discipline, focus, and mind-body harmony.”
While most NBA superstars take time to enjoy the beach during the offseason, Wemby was waking up at 4:30 to engage in running and other practices. He was also eating only vegetarian meals.
Participating in these practices at 21 years old shows Wemby’s commitment to his mental and physical growth.

The Fanatics Fest in NYC was a massive hit this year with Eli Manning tackling Tom Brady and Kevin Durant’s live reaction to getting traded. Fresh off his trip to China, Wemby stood out with some moments of his own.
From arriving on a golf cart to receiving the ultimate praise from LeBron James, this was a weekend to remember for Wemby and many fans.
Wemby spoke publicly for the first time since his season-ending injury as a guest on Kevin Hart’s “Cold as Balls” live episode. He discussed gaining 30 pounds since entering the league, Gregg Popovich’s retirement, his retreat in China, along with more.
He also enjoyed some moments with the fans, including beating them on and off the court.
When he’s not playing basketball, he enjoys playing chess and even took on 100 fans.
The summer is only getting started. It was uncertain whether Wemby would participate in the 2025 EuroBasket for France. However, now it looks like he will sit it out as he recovers from blood clots in his shoulder. While he won’t be playing, it won’t be a surprise if he is seen in attendance at the games, supporting his home country.
Victor Wembanyama is expected to make a full recovery by the start of next season and is enjoying his journey along the way.
