When Will Chris Paul Retire?

Chris Paul is one of the best of all time, and sadly, his NBA journey's end creeps into consciousness. The Spurs point guard is in his 19th NBA season, and apparently, he put a number on how many more he'll play. The veteran point guard contemplated retirement in a sit-down interview with San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker.

In a Spurs-sanctioned interview, two of the best point guards in NBA history had a heartfelt and thoughtful conversation. Paul revealed his train of thought regarding retirement.

"Maybe a year or two. I'm still trying to feel it out," Paul said. "I think the hardest part is—like, I love this, like practice today, I love hooping, I love all of that. The hardest part is when I get home, and I have to watch my kids' games on the iPad or whatnot, so that's the tug of war right now."

With Paul leading the ball-handling duties, the Spurs' offense improved from the 26th-ranked offense rating of the 2023-24 season. Nearing the average mark, in light of a 16-ranked offensive rating, the Spurs' offense showcases more focus and structure.

Paul averages 10.2 points and 8.5 assists per game, an upgrade from his 2023-24 Golden State Warriors season.

The future Hall of Fame point guard said that as long as he is logging minutes, he'll continue to commit to playing in the NBA, even if it means sacrificing family time.

"Last year (with the Golden State Warriors) was probably one of the toughest years for me. I just love to hoop. I wanna play. If I’m gonna sacrifice my family and be away from them, then I at least need to be playing," Paul said.

Thanks to Paul's influence, the Spurs have a respectful 12-12 record, only a loss behind the Phoenix Suns for the 10th-seed, the final spot for the Play-In Tournament. Whether Paul is the answer for the Spurs past this season is beside the point. If a team has minutes for Paul, he will help the next team enhance their winning odds.
