Could LeBron James return home one more time? It’s a question that seems to be asked a lot these days.
It is only speculation for now, but Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report became the latest to float the idea that James could leave the Lakers in free agency this summer and sign with the Cavs.
James is set to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time since 2018. Hughes suggested a third run with the Cavs could serve as a fitting final chapter. We’ve said that in this very space as well. So this is just the latest take.
“A third stint in Cleveland could give James a shot to contend for a championship during a proper farewell tour,” Hughes wrote. “Though the Cavs have Donovan Mitchell‘s extension and James Harden‘s always fraught contract demands to consider, adding James to the mix should be a priority. If the whole core is back, LeBron would fit cleanly into a starting spot between the Mitchell-Harden backcourt and the Evan Mobley –Jarrett Allen duo up front.”
Of course, plenty would have to happen before anything like that became reality.
James remains productive even at age 41, averaging 21.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 7.0 assists this season for Los Angeles.
And Cleveland fans certainly remember what he meant to the franchise.
Across two stints with the Cavs, James delivered the 2016 championship and cemented his place as the greatest player in team history.
