A massive brawl broke out during halftime of last weekend's football game between Bethune-Cookman Grambling State.
Footage of this brawl surfaced on social media this past weekend. It appears several punches were thrown on the sideline. On Tuesday, the Southwestern Athletic Conference handed out several suspensions and fines to Bethune-Cookman and Grambling State.
"We’re extremely disappointed by the events that transpired during halftime of the Bethune-Cookman at Grambling State football game. Acts of that nature have zero place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and intercollegiate athletics," said SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland. "The Conference Office has and will continue to enforce a zero-tolerance policy for all acts deemed to be unsportsmanlike and contrary to the high standard of good sportsmanship we expect from all individuals associated with the athletics programs within our league."
A whopping 18 players from Grambling State have been suspended for their involvement in this brawl. Nine players from Bethune-Cookman were also suspended.
Grambling State was fined $40,000 this Tuesday, whereas Bethune-Cookman was hit with a $25,000 fine.

Although countless people have criticized Grambling State's football team for how it conducted itself last Saturday, head coach Mickey Joseph defend his players' actions.
"We're not going to tolerate disrespect here at Grambling," Joseph said. "You won't disrespect us. We're going to meet disrespect with disrespect."
Joseph later clarified that he "never meant to condone violence or unsportsmanlike behavior" with his initial comments.
Grambling State will be back in action this Saturday against Alcorn State. Hopefully, there isn't another brawl on the field.
