The Seattle Seahawks are on sale after winning Super Bowl 61 against the New England Patriots. The NFC West franchise was purchased by Paul Allen in 1997 for approximately $194 million. The move prevented the Seahawks from moving to California.
Things have changed after nearly three decades. The Paul G. Allen trust managed the team since he died in 2018. Eight years later, his sister, Jody, is ready to give control of the team to a different person.
In the middle of March, Jeff Bezos was reportedly a candidate to take over the Seahawks. At the end of April, Mark Zuckerberg was mentioned as another potential buyer. However, none of those rumors has materialized.
Sportico reported on Thursday that a few candidates joined the race to purchase the Seahawks. First, billionaire Vinod Khosla, an investor in the San Francisco 49ers, reportedly prepared an offer for the defending Super Bowl champions.
Additionally, Aditya Mittal and Wyc Grousbeck also planned to team up for a bid. Mittal is a steel magnate, while Grousbeck was the Boston Celtics owner.
The Seahawks are valued at $6.59 billion right now, but some project them to sell for $9 to $11 billion.
