College football season is around the corner, and the Associated Press decided to celebrate their 100th anniversary as an organization by putting together an All-Time All-American team.

On Thursday, the AP released its All-Time All-American first team and second team, recognizing the greatest college football players in the history of the game.

Here are the three Alabama players who made this list:

OG: John Hannah, 1972

Hannah made the All-Time first team. In 1972, he was a unanimous all-American and went on to be drafted in the first round by the New England Patriots, who now have his No.73 retired.

LB: Derrick Thomas, 1988

Thomas also made the All-Time first team. Thomas won the Butkus Award and set the Crimson Tide career records for sacks (52) and tackles for loss (68).

He was also a first-round draft choice, being selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1989. Thomas went on to be a nine-time pro bowler and had his No.58 retired by the Chiefs in 2009.

WR: DeVonta Smith, 2020

Smith was named to the second team. He is a Heisman Trophy winner who led Alabama to a national championship in 2020. In his four seasons at Alabama, Smith had nearly 4,000 receiving yards and 43 receiving touchdowns.

Last season, Smith won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that drafted him in the first round after his historic Heisman Trophy season.

The argument could be made that Smith should be on the first team, but Marshall’s Randy Moss and Pittsburgh’s Larry Fitzgerald are ahead of him.

Since 1925, 83 Alabama players have received the honor of being named an AP first-team All-American, and there could be Crimson Tide representatives on the 2025 AP All-American team after this season.
