Trent Williams and the San Francisco 49ers have finally sorted out their lingering contract dispute.

The 49ers and Williams reached an agreement on a new two-year contract worth $50 million. The deal ensures that Williams will remain tied to the franchise through 2027.

Williams and the 49ers have been at odds since February, when it emerged that the 49ers might release him in order to avoid his hefty cap hit. Ultimately, it never came to that, and it had been reported that the Niners intended to do exactly this before the NFL Draft.

Williams would have carried a $39 million cap hit had he remained on his previous contract.

The Niners would have desperately missed Williams had they been forced to let him go. The 12-time Pro Bowl selection has anchored the team’s offensive line since joining the team in 2020, and was a first-team All-Pro every season from 2021 to 2023.
