49ers defensive rookie among new names not practicing Sunday

The San Francisco 49ers kicked off their 13th full practice of training camp on Sunday, the final session before traveling to Southern California for a joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers. The two teams will meet in a preseason game Thursday night.

Reporters on hand reported that rookie defensive tackle Gracen Halton was among several players not participating in Sunday's practice. Right guard Dominick Puni and wide receiver Demarcus Robinson were also absent.

Halton stood out to 49ers star tackle Trent Williams in the preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.

"I think the world kind of seen what he has to offer—very explosive, short-area quickness, really powerful," Williams said on Saturday. "Push you in the mind of D.J. Jones a little bit, from what he had when he was here. He definitely impressed."

Running back Christian McCaffrey and defensive end Nick Bosa remain sidelined. McCaffrey is dealing with "tightness," while Bosa is working through soreness and tendinitis in his surgically repaired knee.

Bosa was seen working on the side during practice.

The 49ers also remain without running backs Jordan James and rookie Kaelon Black.

Sunday's practice was also the final opportunity for fans to observe the 49ers during an open session in Santa Clara. Tuesday's joint practice with the Chargers is open to fans but is limited to Chargers season-ticket holders.
