49ers' Dre Greenlaw needs groin surgery, out until at least November

The San Francisco 49ers already knew that cornerback Jason Verrett and running back Raheem Mostert were lost to season-ending injury setbacks coming off last Sunday's win at the Detroit Lions.

Things continue to get worse for the 49ers ahead of their Week 2 matchup at the Philadelphia Eagles.

ESPN's Nick Wagoner reports that San Francisco linebacker Dre Greenlaw requires surgery to repair the groin injury he suffered in Detroit. Greenlaw appears headed to injured reserve, and Wagoner added the 24-year-old will be out through at least some point into November.

Greenlaw may have gotten injured while returning an interception for a touchdown against the Lions. Along with the pick-six, he tallied six total tackles in the victory.

"With the last two days working out here, it's been talked about," quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said about his team losing multiple starters so early into what is hoped to be a promising campaign. "It's something that you have to address. It's not like you could avoid it in any way. It's just one of those things. You've got to stay hydrated, do all the right things, the little things behind the scenes, getting with the trainers, getting with the body maintenance people. I mean, there's a million little things that go into it and we just can't get lazy, especially early in the season. It's going to translate to later in the year and just on and on. It's all tied together."

Philadelphia began its season with a dominant 32-6 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
