Following Tuesday's report that Jimmy Garoppolo would be undergoing shoulder surgery "soon," San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch discussed the quarterback on Wednesday morning during Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine.
.@49ers GM John Lynch to @PSchrags on if they knew about the extent of Jimmy Garoppolo's shoulder injury: "No we didn't know it. Don't think Jimmy knew it. He made the decision in the last couple of days." @gmfb @nflnetwork

Says he doesn’t like saying “minor” with surgery but that’s how he’d designate it. Capsule issue. Decision for surgery made in the last few days.

“He’s gonna be fine. We’re so fond of Jimmy. That situation is active and fluid. A lot of teams have interest in him.” https://t.co/4mc4y7eZPa
Garoppolo is among the veteran signal-callers expected to be traded this offseason -- and possibly this month -- along with potentially Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that despite the surgery timetable for "Jimmy G," he is "likely" to be moved to another team.
Schefter further said that Garoppolo suffered the injury during the Niners' wild-card playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys and that he is expected to resume throwing around July 4. The former New England Patriot just finished his eighth NFL season and fifth in San Francisco.
In 15 regular-season games last season, Garoppolo finished with 68.3% completion percentage, 3,810 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions, while picking up 51 yards on 38 rushing attempts.
The 49ers are expected to turn to 2021 third-overall pick Trey Lance in the 2022 season and beyond at quarterback.
.@49ers GM John Lynch to @PSchrags on Trey Lance: "We love the development of Trey. I loved watching him get better in those games. He's everything we thought he was and more. Trey is made of the right stuff. Guys like playing for him." @gmfb @nflnetwork

.@49ers GM John Lynch to @PSchrags on the activity at the QB position: "There certainly has been discussions. We'll always listen to things, but when you make that kind of investment in someone, you tend to use him." @gmfb @nflnetwork
