The San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk continue to be at a stalemate, and chances are he's played his last down for the organization.
Nevertheless, that doesn't mean they will just cut ties with him and allow him to join another team. Instead, the 49ers are still trying to find him a trade suitor. And while that didn't seem feasible weeks ago, it looks like there's some growing interest in his services.
In his predraft media availability, general manager John Lynch revealed that they've been getting some calls about Aiyuk.
"I've had some discussions," Lynch said. "Do I think it's a high probability? Likely no. But is there a chance? Yeah, I think there's a chance."
While that wasn't the most optimistic outcome, it's better than what they echoed just a couple of weeks ago. Even so, they won't let a potential transaction dictate what they'll do in the NFL Draft.
"So, I think we'll see it through here," Lynch added. "We'll focus on our draft. If something happens there, great. If not, we'll reevaluate it. He's still a member of this roster right now, and we'll treat him as such."
This class is deep at wide receiver, so chances are that teams that miss on one of the top prospects will be under more pressure to find alternatives elsewhere; that's when trade talks can pick up again.
The 49ers should be in no rush to get a deal done, and while a release might still be the most likely outcome, they're right to try to squeeze as much value as they can from a player who's caused them trouble for the past two years now.
