The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a two-year, $50 million contract extension with All-Pro offensive tackle Trent Williams , securing his future with the team through the 2027 season. The deal was first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter and confirmed by Williams' agent.

The contract reportedly includes $37 million fully guaranteed and a $22 million signing bonus.

Washington selected Williams out of Oklahoma with the fourth overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft. He spent 10 seasons in Washington (Williams did not play in 2019) before being traded to the 49ers in 2020, where he has since served as the team's starting left tackle.

In February, reports surfaced that Williams and the 49ers were at a standoff in contract negotiations, prompting speculation about the veteran offensive lineman's future.

"He's been a tremendous asset to our organization — we love having him," general manager John Lynch said at the NFL Scouting Combine shortly after news of the standoff broke. "My hope, and I've shared this with Trent, is that his name's up in the rafters with the greats that have played for the Niners because he certainly fits that category."

A month later, at the NFL meetings in Phoenix, Arizona, Lynch said that the negotiations with Williams never got ugly.

"It's been very straightforward, direct," Lynch said. "And I just think there's a lot of nuance to that situation. He's one of the great players, I think, to ever play the game, but there's a reality with his age. It's like, how do you thread that needle, and how do you find a deal where everyone's taken care of and happy?"

During the 2025 NFL season, Williams started all 16 games for the 49ers, playing 997 offensive snaps. He earned a 91.5 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, ranking third among all NFL tackles. Williams was penalized four times and allowed 32 total pressures and four sacks while anchoring San Francisco's offensive line.

Over his NFL career, Williams has appeared in 204 games, starting all but one, which came during his rookie season. His honors include 12 Pro Bowl selections (2012–2018, 2020–2023, 2025) and five All-Pro selections, including three first-team honors (2021–2023) and two second-team selections (2015, 2025).

Williams, 37, is widely regarded as one of the best offensive tackles in NFL history and is expected to be a lock for the Hall of Fame once his playing career ends.
