The San Francisco 49ers are bolstering their wide receiver room after it took another hit on Sunday.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Tuesday that the 49ers are signing veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks to their practice squad. This move comes after fellow wideout Demarcus Robinson suffered an ankle injury during Sunday’s win over the Miami Dolphins.

Cooks spent the second half of last season with the Buffalo Bills after the New Orleans Saints released him earlier in the year. In five games for Buffalo, he racked up five receptions for 114 yards.
The 49ers’ wide receiver room has been snakebitten by injuries since the start of training camp. Aside from Robinson’s injury, San Francisco is without rookie De’Zhaun Stribling, who suffered a left ankle injury in Week 1 that required surgery and will keep him out for 10 weeks.
They’re also without Ricky Pearsall, who had season-ending knee injury during training camp as well as Christian Kirk, who’s been on injured reserve since July due to a calf injury.
Despite limited production over the last several years, primarily due to injury, the 32-year-old has established himself as one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL.
Across now 13 NFL seasons, Cooks has played for the aforementioned Saints and Bills, the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys. In his career, the veteran has racked up 734 receptions for 9,811 yards and 60 touchdowns. He is also just 189 yards away from reaching 10,000 receiving yards in his NFL career.
With the 49ers’ receiving room getting thin, it would not be a surprise to see Cooks on the field Sunday when San Francisco hosts the Arizona Cardinals.
