49ers working toward joint practices with Broncos
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga might get some practice time with—well, against—their former team this summer. According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos are in discussions to hold joint practices.

Greenlaw and Hufanga, who spent their entire careers with the 49ers before signing with the Broncos in free agency, could find themselves lining up against familiar faces on the practice field.

The 49ers have a history of scheduling joint practices with preseason opponents. Last year, they planned to hold sessions with the New Orleans Saints in Southern California since their own facilities can't accommodate two teams. However, the 49ers ultimately canceled those practices due to a high number of injuries on their roster.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan values joint practices, often considering them more beneficial than the preseason games.

The 49ers last faced the Broncos in the 2023 preseason at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. The official 2025 preseason schedule has yet to be released, with the regular-season schedule expected in May, followed by the preseason announcement sometime after that.
