'A number of guys' - Brian Schottenheimer teases more Dallas Cowboys' contract extensions, here are the top 5 candidates

Following the news of a four-year extension for tight end Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer teased there is more deals to come.

"There’s a number of guys we’re trying to get done," Schottenheimer said Sunday ahead of training camp practice.

Now granted, not just because the Cowboys want to get deals done means they will. But listed below are the top five candidates to get an extension before the start of the 2025 NFL season.

DE Micah Parsons

I don't think I need to go into heavy detail with this one as it's one of the most covered stories around the league. Parsons will become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. It's just a matter of when.

The goal is to get it done before the season starts as Parsons continues to not participate in drills at training camp. He's the best player on the roster and the front office is over a year late in getting a deal done.

CB DaRon Bland

Bland is a tricky one. Two years removed from setting the league's record for most pick sixes in a single season and leading the NFL in interceptions, there is debate on where he stands among the top cornerbacks in the league. PFF recently ranked him 32nd.

A good season could lead to him quickly climbing the rankings. If the Cowboys want to get a team friendly deal on a player with upside, this might be the time to do it. If Bland is worried about being moved to the slot—where compensation is lower compared to outside corners—it could be a win for him as well.

LG Tyler Smith

This is one that could be hard to get done for a simple reason: Smith knows very well he's on track to become one of the highest-paid interior offensive linemen in the NFL. Recently, he was ranked by execs, coaches, and scouts as the second best player among guards and centers.

Are the Cowboys already willing to pay top dollar?

K Brandon Aubrey

Aubrey has received back-to-back All-Pro honors since arriving at the NFL and he's showing no signs of slowing down. That means he's likely going to become the highest-paid kicker in the NFL when his time comes. That time is coming soon, as 2025 is a contract year for the 30-year-old. The Cowboys could get ahead of the curve before the regular season starts.

DE Sam Williams

This would be a big surprise but here's the case for it: The Cowboys seem to be high on Williams as training camp heats up. He's been much more involved with the first and second team early on than expected.

Simply put, the price to lock up Williams is never going to be lower than it is right now. Now granted, that likely means the veteran is willing to bet on himself and hope for a better deal at the end of the season. But is there a number that makes sense? It could give the Cowboys a productive pass rusher at a steep discount while taking on some risk.
