A win isn’t the only thing the Dolphins and their Week 4 opponent, the Jets, are chasing a breakthrough in as they enter their primetime showdown

It goes without saying that things in South Florida aren't great right now with the Miami Dolphins. They're one of six winless teams left in the NFL. There's a whole bunch of chatter about the job security of every major power player within the organization, including head coach Mike McDaniel , general manager Chris Grier and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa . The Dolphins will catch the New York Jets at home with extra rest next week, with the team hoping it can provide them with their first positive breakthrough and a win in 2025.

One thing you can bet on in the game between the Dolphins and Jets? Points. These two teams rank as the two worst defenses in the NFL through three weeks in percentage of drives that end in points. That, somehow, is not the most incredible defensive statistic for this showcase, however.

Expect points but you may be wise to not bank on seeing a turnover.

Dolphins continue their search for first defensive turnover of 2025 season...same as the Jets

Neither the Dolphins or the Jets have logged a defensive turnover in the first three weeks. There's only one additional team in the NFL that has yet to force one, the Washington Commanders. It's a stunning mark to contrast against a team like the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have posted 9 turnovers in the first three weeks of this season.

The Jets will enter Week 4 with a -4 turnover differential, whereas Miami sits at -5. It's a case of a stoppable force versus a moveable object — which side will cave? Will the lack of takeaway prowess or the penchant to turn the ball over for either side win out when they go against one another? One thing is for certain. This is not a sustainable pace for the Dolphins. Jacksonville, as the league's current takeaway kings, have posted three consecutive games with three turnovers forced. Miami hasn't posted a single game with three turnovers since the regular season finale in 2023 against the Buffalo Bills.

You have to go back to Miami's Week 10 win against the Los Angeles Rams last year to find 9 cumulative turnovers generated by the Dolphins. It's been a tough stretch for Miami on this front, especially given that the team brought in several ballhawking players such as Jack Jones and Minkah Fitzpatrick to play in this year's secondary. Miami can hang their hat on that unit getting progressively better through the first three weeks. Perhaps the time on task together, plus a little extra prep time, can facilitate a breakthrough in this regard.

But the numbers through three weeks say you should be expecting points, not turnovers, in Week 4 when the Jets come to town.
