New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had an axe to grind with his former team New York Jets, and it showed not just with the way he played on Sunday, but with the way he talked about his side’s victory at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Rodgers flashed some of his vintage form against the Jets, showing that he still has a lot of gas left in the tank despite being just months away from celebrating his 42nd birthday.
The four-time NFL Most Valuable Player and former Green Bay Packers franchise signal-caller passed for 244 yards and four touchdowns with zero picks thrown on 22-of-30 pass completions. He was sacked four times for a loss of 26 yards, but overall, he was sensational in leading the Steelers to a 34-32 victory.
Rodgers had interesting things to say following the win in his first game with the Steelers.
“I love beating everybody,” Rodgers said, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). “It doesn’t matter who it is.”
“I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets,” Rodgers said after being asked on his thoughts on Jets head coach Aaron Glenn. “I gave as much as I could to the team. I didn’t have any hard feelings about it not working out. I didn’t maybe appreciate the way it went down in the end, but that’s in the past.”
It can be recalled that the Jets let go of Rodgers in March before he later resurfaced with a one-year, $13.65 million contract to play for the Steelers.
