Aaron Rodgers offered a new account of his engagement to Shailene Woodley, saying the actress asked to sleep with another man days after accepting his proposal.
Speaking Thursday on teammate Cam Heyward’s Not Just Football podcast, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback said he proposed in December 2020, and Woodley said yes. He added that she may have felt forced but could have declined.
“A couple days after that she tells me, ‘Before we get married, I gotta go f–k this guy,'” Rodgers said.
He claimed Woodley removed the ring by March 2021. The couple tried to reconcile more than once that year, he said, but nothing came of those efforts. After one attempt, she told him, “I don’t want to be with you.”
Rodgers rejected the idea that he left her and caused her depression.
“Her story is that I ruined her life and gave her crazy depression because I left her,” he said. “There wasn’t even a relationship in 2022 to break off.
“Shai, you left me, you took the ring off. What are we talking about regarding me ruining your life?”
Their relationship became public in early 2021. Contemporary reports said the engagement ended in February 2022 after a brief reconciliation that spring. Woodley has not responded to the new claims.
In 2024, she called the relationship “not right” but “beautiful,” described a traumatic period in early 2022, and said talking about it still makes her cry.
