Aaron Rodgers has a chance to make rare NFL history in Week 8

Aaron Rodgers will face his former team when the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Green Bay Packers in Week 8, and the former MVP has a chance to make history in the game.

Rodgers spent the first 18 seasons of his career with the Packers. He did not have an opportunity to play against Green Bay when he was with the New York Jets, which is part of the reason the Packers are the only team in the NFL that Rodgers has not beaten.

As Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk notes, Rodgers can become just the fifth quarterback in NFL history to beat all 32 teams if he leads the Steelers to a win over Green Bay on Sunday night. Not surprisingly, the other four are NFL legends — Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Brett Favre.

Aaron Rodgers has been outstanding in Pittsburgh

Rodgers has been better than many anticipated through his first six games with the Steelers. The 41-year-old has thrown for 1,270 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. The touchdown passes are tied for third in the NFL, and Rodgers has played one less game than many of his peers, with Pittsburgh having had its bye in Week 5.

It was fair to wonder whether Rodgers was washed up after he struggled through a 5-12 season with the Jets in 2024. He seemed to get stronger as the year progressed, however. Rodgers missed essentially the entire 2023 season after tearing his Achilles, so he was likely still working his way back to full strength throughout much of last season.

Rodgers completed 23-of-34 passes for 249 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in Pittsburgh's Week 7 33-31 loss to the Bengals. He will likely need to do a better job of protecting the ball if he wants to beat the Packers and join some elite company.
