Achane Not Giving Up On Dolphins’ Season

Even for the most optimistic of Miami Dolphins fans, there isn’t much to be hopeful about right now. Through two games, the Dolphins look as inept as any team in the league.

They’ve lost by 18 points, and they were just on the receiving end of a battering on Sunday. The San Francisco 49ers beat them 35-13, and the score could have been even more lopsided. If not for a 77-yard touchdown from Ryan Miller with mere minutes remaining in the fourth, the Dolphins would have gone the whole contest without a touchdown.

However, despite Miami’s less-than-stellar start, running back De’Von Achane seemingly hasn’t given up on the season just yet.

In a post-game interview, he acknowledged it’s still early in the season, and even though things look bad right now, there’s plenty of time to turn it around.

“It’s Week 2,” he said. “Yeah, like you said, it’s a long season. We can’t be down and pouting, looking at ourselves because there’s a long season ahead of us. It’s only Week 2 – got 15 more to go.”

Achane’s play was at least one thing to write home about. After he really underwhelmed in Week 1 against the Raiders, he got back on track against a San Francisco 49ers team that looks primed to contend for a Super Bowl in the NFC. He was particularly excellent in the first half, as all but 12 of his 74 rushing yards came in the first two quarters.

He will need to play at least as well in the Dolphins’ upcoming matchups if they want any chance of turning their season around and even keeping up with the Chiefs in the scoring column next week. Kansas City is averaging 32 points per contest through two games this season and just dropped 33 points in an overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts.
