‘ACL Tear’: Washington Commanders Lose Player For 2025 Due To Injury

The Washington Commanders lost one player for the upcoming season in the team’s preseason debut against the New England Patriots on Friday night. The injury will cause issues for an offensive line already dealing with depth issues as Sam Cosmi rehabs from his ACL injury.

Per Ben Standig, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn announced that offensive tackle Lucas Niang suffered an ACL injury during Washington’s 48-18 loss to the Patriots. Niang had performed well enough in camp to battle for a spot on the 53-man roster.

“Quinn shared that OT Lucas Niang suffered an ACL tear against the Patriots,” Standig wrote. “I had him in the mix for OL9.”

The Washington Commanders lost Lucas Niang

The Commanders signed Niang to the roster on July 30.

Niang was a 2020 third-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s played in 33 games and started nine, and won two Super Bowls during his time with the Chiefs.

Fans on X responded to the injury news.

“I had high hopes for Niang coming out of TCU. He just never got right from his college injury,” wrote a fan.

“unfortunate but we got Tunsil, Coleman, Connerly and Wiley tackle the one position where we do have good depth at, tackle and cornerback,” posted another.
