The New England Patriots' receiving core certainly struggled during the 2024 season, but there was one player who took a considerable step forward despite it all.
Bill Belichick drafted Kayshon Boutte in the legendary coach's final season with the Patriots. However, Boutte remained sidelined for much of the 2023 season, never really getting the opportunity to show what he was capable of.
But, when Jerod Mayo took over, he got his chance. Boutte finished the season with 43 receptions for 589 yards and three touchdowns, putting some impressive stuff on film.
Looking forward though, Boutte might not fit into the new system and plan that the Patriots are creating under Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniel.
New England signed star receiver Stefon Diggs to a three year deal along with bringing in veteran receiver Mack Hollins. Javon Baker and Ja'Lynn Polk are heading into their second season and looking to turn things around and prove their worth. Then there's DeMario Douglas and Kendrick Bourne who are important to the locker room and have proved to be a steady target for quarterback Drake Maye.
So, where does that leave Boutte?
Instead, a team in need of a solid receiver could make the Patriots an offer and New England can look to improve their draft this season or in the future.
This is definitely something to keep an eye on.
