ESPN’s Adam Schefter is known as the most prominent NFL insider in the business, but he did not exactly nail it Monday when discussing Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan.
Schefter made an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday afternoon, and he discussed potential NFL coaching changes at one point during the interview. During the appearance, Schefter said he did not anticipate any coaching changes happening anytime soon, even citing Callahan by name.
“I don’t think — and for all I know, we’re going to hang up here and someone’s going to get fired — but I don’t see a head coach losing his job. I don’t see Brian Callahan … happening soon,” Schefter said.

Schefter’s premonition came true. Less than an hour after he made those comments, the Titans announced the firing of Callahan.
To be fair to Schefter, he left plenty of wiggle room in his comments. As he said, things change quickly in the NFL, and he did not definitively say that no coaching changes were coming. It’s safe to say, however, that the media’s top NFL insider did not see the Callahan move coming.
It is not necessarily that Schefter is poorly-informed. After all, he has made his fair share of decent predictions. When it comes to information, however, Schefter can only go off what he is told, and those within the league do have incentives to share or not share certain information.
Schefter is not perfect, and this news proves it. Some other coaches that he has suggested are fairly safe might be sweating a little harder after seeing Callahan lose his job despite similar public reports.
