Amon-Ra St. Brown says playing in Germany with the Detroit Lions will be a special moment in his NFL career.
The Lions are set to host a regular-season game in Munich in 2026 as part of the league’s international series. For St. Brown, it represents more than just another fixture on the schedule.
The wide receiver has often spoken about his ties to Germany, and the opportunity to play there is one he has anticipated since entering the league.
St. Brown’s mother was born in Germany, and he has maintained close connections to the country through visits and youth football camps.
The 2026 matchup in Munich will give him the chance to play an NFL game in his family’s homeland. He has previously explained how significant that opportunity would be.
“It has been a dream of mine to play a game in my mother’s home country of Germany since coming to the league.”
“I cannot wait to play in front of the incredible fans that I’ve gotten to know through my visits and football camps in the country.”
“Their support for me and the country’s instant connection to the Lions brand is inspiring, and I’m looking forward to our team getting to showcase Detroit football on an international scale.”
The occasion will also carry strong emotions for St. Brown’s family, particularly his mother. He acknowledged that her excitement may even exceed his own.
“To play in Germany, would be, I think, my mom would be more excited than me,” St. Brown said.
He added: “I asked her jokingly, I was like, ‘How many tickets do you think you’d need?’ She’s like, ‘Probably like 50, 60.’ I’m like, ‘Damn, that’s crazy.’”
The game will be staged at FC Bayern Munich Stadium, with the opponent and kickoff time to be confirmed during the NFL’s full schedule release.
When Detroit takes the field in Munich, it will represent both a step in the league’s global growth and a personal milestone for one of the team’s leading players.
