Chiefs HC Andy Reid clarifies retirement stance, comment

Breathe easy, Kansas City Chiefs fans. It sounds like head coach Andy Reid is staying put.

"I was asked that about 50 times down there," Reid explained Tuesday about fielding questions related to his possible retirement ahead of Super Bowl LVII, per Charles Goldman of Chiefs Wire/USA Today. "I think by the time I got to (Fox Sports NFL insider) Jay Glazer, I said, 'Hey, listen, I’ve been asked this about 100 times.' That’s not the direction I am going. It wasn’t a yes or no answer I guess, so it came across maybe that way. That was not what I was thinking."

Glazer generated headlines ahead of the Super Bowl LVII matchup between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles via a brief report regarding a conversation he had with Reid.

"Look, I’m not getting any younger," Reid allegedly told Glazer. "I still have a young quarterback. I have a decision I have to make after this game."

Shortly after Sunday's 38-35 win at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, Reid confirmed to NBC Sports' Peter King he was not retiring and planned to remain Chiefs head coach. According to KMBC out of Kansas City, the future Hall of Famer who turns 65 years old next month and who has guided the Chiefs to a pair of titles since February 2020 later told reporters during a news conference he will "stick around" if the club will still have him.

"You know, I'm enjoying what I'm doing, and I've got this guy over here that's a pretty good player," Reid elaborated about his future while referencing quarterback and two-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Patrick Mahomes. "So I think I'm doing okay."

Also on Tuesday, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach made it clear during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" he "would be shocked" if Reid rode off into the sunset after this latest championship.
