Eagles RT Lane Johnson falls short of elusive 'Madden' rating

Philadelphia’s All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson was really hoping to get a 99 rating for "Madden 24," but once again he’ll have to settle for being the best right tackle in the NFL.

As EA Sports prepares to release the latest version of its popular football game, it's started to release the ratings of select players. An overall rating of 99 is the highest rating a player can earn in the game. Only a few of the very the best NFL players earn membership into the 99 club each year.

This year, Johnson thought he had a chance. Not only did his team make the Super Bowl, but Johnson himself didn’t give up a sack all year — or the year before. According to Pro Football Focus, hge hasn’t allowed a sack since Week 11 of 2020 or a quarterback hit since Week 7 of 2021.

Unfortunately for Johnson, none of it was good enough to get him the elusive 99 this year. According to the "Madden" site, he just missed with a score of 98 this year.

If it’s any consolation, Johnson’s score is currently the highest among all Eagles. Not all scores have been released, but so far cornerback Darius Slay and center Jason Kelce both received the team’s second-highest scores of 92. Wide receiver A.J. Brown earned a 91, and edge-rusher Haason Reddick was given a 90.

Among offensive linemen in the NFL, only disgruntled Cowboy’s guard Zack Martin scored higher so far with a 99, while San Francisco’s Trent Williams was also given a 98 (contrary to what the Eagles post says).

Johnson received a 92 grade in "Madden 23" and an 88 in "Madden 22" so all things considered scoring a 98 this year is quite an accomplishment.
