ESPN experts predict bright future for Eagles

What’s your favorite NFL team planning for the next three years? According to ESPN’s Future NFL Power Rankings, the Philadelphia Eagles should plan on winning lots of games between now and 2025.

Experts Dan Graziano, Louis Riddick and Seth Walder determined a three-year outlook for every NFL team by using five categories: roster (30%), quarterback (20%), draft (15%), front office (15%) and coaching (20%). According to their math, the future looks bright for the Eagles.

Philadelphia received a 94.1 score, the highest of any NFL team this year. The front office and roster (minus quarterbacks) were both rated best in the NFL, and Philadelphia's draft haul was named the league’s second-best.

Considering veterans like Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson and Darius Slay are unlikely to be with the team in three years, scoring the top roster in this scenario speaks to the quality of players general manager Howie Roseman has been able to bring in.

The team’s lowest marks came at quarterback (fourth) and coaching (seventh), although Graziano had praise for both, pointing out the coach has established a Super Bowl-caliber culture in just two seasons and “has an exciting, young franchise quarterback who's locked in long-term and appears driven to be great.”

The experts have concerns about the team’s loss of coordinators but remain excited about the prospects for second-year DT Jordan Davis. He played sparingly as a rookie last season, but according to Walder, his 41% run stop win rate as an interior rusher would have ranked seventh at the position if he had the snaps to qualify.

In 2022, Philadelphia took 15th place according to ESPN’s rankings. Back then there were still concerns about head coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts. As Walder put it:

For all the positives with Hurts — intangibles, toughness and consistent improvement — one question looms: Can he drive the ball downfield consistently enough for Sirianni to run the offense he wants? In flashes, the answer is yes. But in the playoff game vs. Tampa Bay, the answer was a resounding no.

What a difference a year makes. Enjoy your time at the top, Philadelphia. Things change fast in the NFL. Who knows where the team will land after 2023?
