The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a lot of turnover and roster transactions after the final preseason game as they prepare for Week 1 of the 2023 regular season. Every team around the NFL has, as all teams had to trim their rosters down from 90 players, to the official 53-man roster that will be active/inactive on Sundays. Players that don't make a 53-man roster, are often signed to a team's practice squad. One player signed to the Steelers practice squad, Simi Fehoko, has given everyone an in-depth look at what it is like getting signed by the Steelers.
Steelers New Addition Gives Inside Look At Being Signed
Fehoko was released by the Dallas Cowboys during cut-downs at the end of the 2023 preseason. In one of his TikToks, where he has posted an inside look at what it's like being in the NFL for a while, he explained that he was released by Dallas in the afternoon on the Wednesday following the last week of training camp. He then went on to say that the Steelers contacted his agent just an hour-and-a-half afterwards, saying they'd like to bring him in.
Fehoko went on to lay out what would happen in the process from there. Stating the Steelers wanted him in Pittsburgh by that same night, and when Fehoko said he would take the opportunity, the organization gave him a flight that took off an hour later. By the time it was late in the evening on the same day he was released from Dallas, he was in a hotel in Pittsburgh getting some rest for the full day of physicals he had to go through the next day. At the end of the video, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.
"I went from the Dallas Cowboys and having a phenomenal fanbase to now the Pittsburgh Steelers who also have a phenomenal fanbase. Man, I'm blessed. It's just the journey man. Let's go, here we go Pittsburgh Steelers...Corvette Corvette."
I know many Pittsburgh fans won't love the praise for Cowboys coming from Fehoko, but most can admit both fanbases are two of the most passionate and dedicated in sports. Although Fehoko doesn't dance on TikTok, it's funny to see him poking fun at former Steelers wide receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster and pretending to dance at the end of his video.
This was a joke about how Smith-Schuster used to do this dance at midfield before the Steelers games during the 2020 NFL season and post it to his TikTok, which became extremely controversial. Regardless, it's good to see that Fehoko is still able to joke around despite it being such tumultuous few days for him and having to pick up his life and move.
The new Steeler is very active on TikTok and continues to post videos about the process of signing with the Steelers, and it will surely be something to pay close attention to as the season goes along. He will be joining the Steelers on the practice squad, and Pittsburgh will be keeping a common theme going that has existed over the last couple of years: family. Fehoko is the cousin of Steelers' Breiden Fehoko, who is a nose-tackle for the team.
Breiden was released by the Steelers on cut day, but brought back on the practice squad shortly after. So the Steelers will now have two Fehokos on the practice field, with each having the possibility to be activated to the 53-man roster at any moment. They join Cameron Heyward and Connor Heyward as well as Nate Herbig and Nick Herbig as family members on the Steelers.
Simi was drafted by Dallas in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Stanford, and during his career with the Cowboys, he only caught three passes for 24 yards. He is looking for another shot with the Steelers, and if he performs well with the practice squad, maybe he will be given the opportunity to be activated to the 53-man roster.
