The Washington Commanders' dark days under Dan Snyder seem like a distant memory. One analyst believes the team's efficient 2025 NFL Draft finally buries the former owner's era for good.
Things are being done differently now. The Commanders have ambition, purpose, and direction. There are short and long-term goals with supportive ownership willing to invest. There's a collaborative approach to player recruitment with lofty plans behind the scenes. And the turnaround has been nothing short of miraculous.
Adam Peters didn't have much to work with during the draft after some frantic trade activity. The Commanders opted to not trade down, so making each of his five picks mean something was critical. Fortunately for fans, Washington is in the best possible hands.
This was a sentiment echoed by Chris Trapasso from CBS Sports. He listed the Commanders among those who had the most impactful draft in 2025. He also thought this was another step away from the Snyder years, which were riddled with mismanagement and neglect.
It was the second-consecutive outstanding draft for general manager Adam Peters. [Josh] Conerly is as ready to go as any blocker in this class -- and he very well could become an All-Pro caliber guard if that's where he begins his career in Washington. [Trey] Amos is an older, do-everything boundary corner with a fine blend of man and zone skills. [Jaylin] Lane may be deep on the receiver depth chart now. He won't be by November. Too sudden. A further step away from the Dan Snyder era in Washington.Chris Trapasso
Nobody is thinking too much about Snyder these days. The Commanders are looking ahead to a brighter future. Developments are ongoing, but the new venue at the RFK Stadium site (pending city council approval) and the 2027 NFL Draft coming to D.C. are further proof of the changing landscape around the organization.
The Commanders achieved more than anyone anticipated in Year 1 of the new regime. Peters spent his second offseason being aggressive and finding difference-makers who can help make these immediate accomplishments more sustainable. Expectations are much higher this time around, but the pieces are in place to meet them.
Some potential complications could hold the Commanders back. They look short of explosive edge rushers, and their revamped offensive line must become a cohesive unit quickly. Washington's rushing attack must also become more consistent for an entire campaign. They cannot rely solely on quarterback Jayden Daniels to gain yards on the ground.
Washington's football franchise is on the correct path. It's been decades since they were respected or relevant. The power trio of Peters, majority partner Josh Harris, and head coach Dan Quinn has completely flipped the script.
And make no mistake, there will be nobody more bitter about that than Snyder.
