Analyst rips Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders for a reason that doesn’t even matter at this time

The Cleveland Browns have completed both of their voluntary camp sessions, and mandatory offseason workouts are set to take place this week.

Throughout the two offseason workout periods so far, all four healthy quarterbacks have had opportunities to take reps under center. Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders give the Browns a well-rounded quarterback room, regardless of how you view it.

Among them, Sanders is arguably the most popular—and the most scrutinized. Despite being a fifth-round draft pick, the rookie quarterback faces added pressure due to his high profile. One sports analyst, however, doesn’t appear to be sold on Sanders’ role with the Browns.

“Despite all the hype for Shedeur, he’s the only quarterback on the Browns who wasn’t playing with the [first team],” said Jason McIntyre. “The guy’s got ‘Be Legendary’ as his motto [and] he’s throwing really lavish NFL Draft parties. He’s fourth on the depth chart, decidedly.”

It’s important to note that the Browns do not currently have an official depth chart, and they’re giving all their quarterbacks opportunities to get reps. In media-closed sessions, Sanders has participated in 11-on-11 drills when media hasn’t been in attendance. Ultimately, the best quarterback will win the starting job for Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals—as it should be. Assigning too much meaning to the current quarterback order is premature at this point..

Flacco, with his veteran experience, is the favorite to open the season as the starter. However, the coaching staff will choose the quarterback who gives the team the best chance to win and who operates the offense most effectively. Sanders’ accuracy and football IQ are two key traits that head coach Kevin Stefanski is likely to value.

At this stage, not too much weight should be placed on OTA performances. The real competition begins when training camp starts. Sanders will be in the mix then—and time will tell whether Mcintyre’s take proves to be insightful or just plain off base.
