Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs continued to struggle as the 2025 NFL season nears its end, falling to 6-10 with a 20-13 loss to Bo Nix and the AFC West champion Denver Broncos. Now, the Chiefs will look to end the season on a bright note, hoping to end a five-game skid as they hit the road to face the Las Vegas Raiders.
Reid has had by far his worst season with Kansas City since becoming head coach in 2013. Prior to 2025, Reid had missed the playoffs only once, when the Chiefs finished the 2014 season at 9-7 and narrowly fell short. This also marks the first time Kansas City has missed the postseason since Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback in 2018.
But despite the success Reid and the Chiefs have enjoyed over the past decade, including three Super Bowl wins in five appearances, significant changes could be on the horizon this offseason. Mahomes will be recovering from a torn ACL, which could sideline him for the early portion of the 2026 season, while Travis Kelce, 36, could be nearing retirement.
Some fans have even called for Kansas City to move on from Reid, despite the major success he has had with the franchise. However, on Monday, Reid addressed the possibility of a departure from the Chiefs, saying he wants to remain the team’s head coach.
“I think I’m coming back, right?" Reid said. "If they’ll have me back, I’ll come back. You never know in this business. That’s a tough one. But I plan on it, yeah.”

“I think I’m coming back, right. If they’ll have me back, I’ll come back. You never know in this business, that’s a tough one. But I plan on it, yeah.”
Reid signed a five-year, $100 million contract extension with Kansas City in April 2024, which would leave him with the team until 2029, barring an unexpected decision from the front office.
The Chiefs will face the Raiders on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS.
