Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid may lose one of his most reliable assistant coaches this upcoming offseason.
Despite the Chiefs' struggles this year, Reid is expected to return for the 2026 season. The three-time Super Bowl champion hasn't shown any indication that he's ready to ride off into the sunset. That being said, he might have to revamp his coaching staff in the coming months.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs could lose offensive coordinator Matt Nagy this offseason. He's a free agent after the 2025 season, so it's possible he'll pursue a gig elsewhere either as a head coach or offensive play-caller.
"Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy chose not to sign an extension in the offseason and is set to become a free agent," Pelissero and Rapoport said. "Nagy will be a top head coaching candidate and could well land a job. If he doesn't, Nagy could become a hot candidate for a play-calling job elsewhere. That would mean Reid needs a new OC, with several of his former assistants -- including Eric Bieniemy and perhaps Giants interim HC Mike Kafka -- among potential candidates."
Nagy was the head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2018-2021, owning a 34-31 record. He led the franchise to the playoffs during the 2018 and 2020 seasons.
Speaking to reporters earlier this week, Reid was asked about the rumors regarding Nagy's future. He made it clear that he wants Nagy to get a head-coaching job this offseason.
"We were on a record pace there for a bit, as far as statistically," Reid said. "He does a tremendous job here. I think he deserves to be a head football coach in this league."
According to CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones, the Tennessee Titans are going to consider Nagy for their head-coaching vacancy this offseason.
If Nagy takes his talents to Tennessee, he'd get to work with a potential-packed quarterback in Cam Ward.
