Andy Reid, Chiefs Dealt Bad News on Saturday

Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs enter the final week of the regular season in a position they are quite unfamiliar with, sitting out of contention for a spot in the NFL Playoffs and looking at a top 10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Sitting with a 6-10 record, the Chiefs will look to end the 2025 season on a bright note as they face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18.

Reid, along with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, has helped lead the Chiefs to one of the most dominant dynasties the NFL has seen. Since 2013, Kansas City has missed the postseason just twice and won three Super Bowls in five appearances. The Chiefs also reached the AFC Championship Game every season after Mahomes became the starter in 2018. However, moving forward, Reid could be without a key member of his coaching staff.

Matt Nagy joined Reid’s coaching staff as the Kansas City quarterbacks coach in 2013 before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2016. He later departed for four seasons to serve as head coach of the Chicago Bears before returning to the Chiefs in 2022. In 2023, Nagy was elevated to offensive coordinator once again, helping Kansas City win another Super Bowl.

But following the regular season finale against the Raiders, Nagy's contract will expire, and it appears the offensive coordinator could depart for another potential head coaching position, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

"With offensive coordinator Matt Nagy’s contract up, several scenarios are in play -- including Nagy getting a head coaching job," Rapoport and Pelissero wrote. "He’ll be among the top candidates, a rare one this cycle with experience and a background on offense. If he doesn’t get a head job, leaving to take over as a primary play-caller elsewhere is also possible."

If Nagy were to leave Kansas City again, Rapoport and Pelissero noted two familiar faces as potential replacements at offensive coordinator. Those include Chicago Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy and New York Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka, both of whom previously served under Reid.

While Reid and the Chiefs await Nagy's final decision, they will be back in action against the Raiders on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
