Despite a narrow 22-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, the Las Vegas Raiders cannot be disappointed by how Ashton Jeanty performed.
Looking for redemption from a rough debut against the Seattle Seahawks, Jeanty responded in a big way. He went off for 33 yards and the Raiders’ sole touchdown of the day on seven carries. Jeanty also showcased his superb power, standing up to a hit from 49ers linebacker Tatum Bethune before trucking defensive back Deommodore Lenoir on the next drive.
Coming off of his first impressive NFL game, Jeanty displayed some confidence afterwards.
After the game, Jeanty told reporters that his showing against San Francisco was just the beginning.
“It takes time as a rookie to gain that confidence and I’m here, I’ve arrived,” Jeanty said, per Vegas Sports Today. “It’s time to keep going and make plays for this team.”

Outside of a brief stint in the medical tent after the Bethune hit, Jeanty’s Saturday went about as perfectly as he could ask for.
The Raiders trusted Jeanty to do a little bit of everything on the field, and it worked well on all fronts. The blocking in front of the sixth overall pick was much improved as well, and Jeanty has now shown that he can hit those holes hard when they appear. While the Raiders do have one more preseason game next Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals, it would not be a surprise if the team decides they have seen enough and protect their young star.
The news surrounding Jeanty is a lot better than it was a week ago, and it is a sight Raiders fans can definitely get used to.
