Sports are an amazing and inexplicable thing sometimes.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could barely field a team to practice on Wednesday due to how banged up they are. When Sunday afternoon, had come and gone, they were walking out of Lumen Field in Seattle with a 38-35 win in their pockets over a tough Seahawks team.

And it took record-setting performances by QB Baker Mayfield and rookie WR Emeka Egbuka to get it done.

Baker Mayfield sets a single-game NFL passing mark on Sunday

According to CBS Sports, Mayfield became the first QB in league history to throw for 375+ yards with fewer than 5 incompletions in a regular season game.

Mayfield completed 29 of 33 attempts for 379 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was Mayfield's first 300+ yard passing game of the season, and it was his fourth multi-touchdown passing game of the year.

But it was his poise and moxie when the Bucs fell behind during the game on Sunday, and for the fourth time this season, Mayfield's late-game heroics helped pull the Bucs out of the fire. Down 35-28 after watching the Bucs defense give up a 99-yard touchdown drive, Mayfield brought Tampa Bay even with a 5-play, 70-yard drive in 2:10 where he completed 4 of 5 attempts.

But Baker wasn't the only one pulling off NFL firsts in Seattle on Sunday afternoon. His top target reached an incredible individual mark as well.

Emeka Egbuka sets impressive rookie record among NFL's triple crown of receiving stats

Egbuka became the first player in NFL history to record 25+ catches, 400+ receiving yards, and 5+ receiving touchdowns through his first five career games, according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.

Egbuka, who played his high school football at nearby Steilacoom, had an enormous second half to help lead the Bucs to victory. He followed a 20-yard touchdown and 2-point conversion catch with a 57-yard grab to help Tampa Bay jump out front again late in the third quarter. And on the Bucs' drive to tie up the game in the final minutes, he jumpstarted it with a 25-yard catch. He finished with 7 catches for 163 yards and a touchdown. His 163 yards was the highest across the NFL for Week 5 through Sunday games.

The eyeball test has shown that it's been an incredible season for Mayfield and Egbuka through 5 games, and now, the numbers reflect that as well. We'll see if they can keep the momentum going towards what could be a special season, both for the Bucs and for each player individually.
