Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears have left no stone unturned over the last few years as they have pursued getting back into playoff contention.
Not only did the Bears accomplish the goal of making the playoffs last season, they put themselves on the map as a serious Super Bowl contender moving forward. They won the NFC North division in 2025 and also entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the entire NFC.
Led by first-year head coach Ben Johnson and rising star quarterback Caleb Williams, the future looks incredibly bright. With another strong offseason, Chicago could very well end up being the best team in the NFL next season.
Keeping that in mind, the Bears have been connected to quite a few different potential offseason moves. One new suggestion would see Chicago pull off a blockbuster trade for an $87.5 million star to anchor the front of its defense.
Windy City Gridiron has suggested that New York Giants star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence could make sense as a blockbuster trade target for the Bears this offseason.
“I think the Bears trade for Dexter Lawrence — by sending Tyrique Stevenson and picks,” they wrote.
“Let’s first take a look at it from the Bears side. Dexter Lawrence is one of the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL, and has long been the heart and soul of the New York Giants defense. The Bears currently lack talent along the defensive interior. Gervon Dexter has been inconsistent despite strong sack totals for a DT, and Grady Jarrett was a letdown after signing a big deal in the offseason.”
Lawrence would be a massive addition for Chicago, both literally and figuratively. He stands in at 6-foot-4 and 340 pounds and has become one of the NFL’s best defensive tackles throughout his career.
During the 2025 season with the Giants, the 28-year-old star played in all 17 regular season games. He racked up 31 total tackles to go along with 0.5 sacks, an interception, and four defended passes.
Those numbers were down from previous years. Back in 2024, he totaled 44 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble, and a defended pass in just 12 games.
Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding the Bears this offseason. Lawrence may not end up being a target for Poles, but he’s an interesting name worth monitoring if Chicago chooses to swing big.
