Bears TE Colston Loveland addresses Caleb Williams’ bold statement

The Chicago Bears chose Colston Loveland at No. 10 overall last year after his impressive collegiate run with the Michigan Wolverines. He helped lead the program in winning the national championship and earning a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2024. The tight end proved during his rookie season that he belongs in the NFL and built chemistry with Caleb Williams.

Loveland gained more playing time as the season progressed. He registered 59 receptions for 713 yards and six touchdowns across 16 regular-season games, including 11 starts. The 22-year-old will likely become a full-time starter and has a chance to further establish himself as the quarterback’s most reliable target.

Colston Loveland reacts to Bears QB Caleb Williams’ big prediction

Williams made it clear this offseason that he sees Loveland becoming the best tight end in the league. The second-year star reacted to his bold statement during Monday’s media availability and also discussed how their strengthening their bond.

“A lot of growth for sure, just off the field,” Loveland said. “Like you said, in the offseason, went out in LA, threw a little bit, which is nice. Had all the guys out there. And even just like, you know, doing stuff, playing golf, going to the movies, going to his spot. He always invites the guys over. He’s always wanting people to come over.

“He’s a leader and he wants to build that bond with people outside of the field…It’s an honor coming from him. I got a lot of work to do that for sure but I think he can be the best quarterback in the league too.”

Loveland and Williams will be key to the Bears sustaining their success this year. They reached the Divisional Round in the 2025 season but face the NFL’s toughest schedule. The team will play seven primetime games and will open its season on Sept. 13 versus the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium.
