The Chicago Bears’ roster depth continues to be tested as the list of injuries mounts this summer, with the receiver room the latest casualty. WR Zavion Thomas left Sunday’s practice , and we now have confirmation on WR Luther Burden III, who left Saturday’s practice early.
Ian Rapoport reports that the second-year WR will “miss a little bit of time” after suffering a groin injury in Saturday’s practice. While no official timeline is provided at the moment, it does appear that Burden III avoided serious injury, and hopefully can make a recovery within the next five weeks prior to the start of the NFL season.
As a rookie, Burden III amassed 652 yards from 47 receptions with two touchdowns across 15 games (NFL.com) last season, really coming along in the second half of the season. Burden III is expected by many to take a big leap in his second year with the Bears, and reports out of training camp over the last week and a half have certainly validated that belief.
With Burden III and Thomas both sidelined with injury, it appears that fellow second-year WR Jahdae Walker has been the “next man up” and took snaps with the starters at Sunday’s practice, according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.
