Bengals HC makes feelings on Chase Brown's controversial comments about struggling defense clear

Shortly after the Cincinnati Bengals fell to 3-6 on the season via a 47-42 loss to the Chicago Bears, Bengals running back Chase Brown seemed to suggest that the Cincinnati defense failed the club's offense this past Sunday.

On Monday, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor made it clear he didn't appreciate Brown publicly voicing his frustrations regarding what occurred at Cincinnati's Paycor Stadium.

Zac Taylor doesn't "expect" Chase Brown will have similar reaction down the road

"That's not how we want to react," Taylor said about Brown's remarks, per Ben Baby of ESPN. "And one of our best players, one of our most high-character players, I think, in a moment of frustration, said that. I don't expect that to happen again."

Taylor publicly called his defense out after the Bengals suffered a disheartening 39-38 Week 8 home loss to what had been a winless New York Jets side. The Jets had failed to score a touchdown in their previous two games.

Against the Bears, the Cincinnati defense gave up a 58-yard touchdown reception with under 20 seconds remaining in the contest. On Tuesday morning, reports revealed that Cincinnati was trading veteran linebacker Logan Wilson to the Dallas Cowboys. Wilson requested a trade after losing snaps to rookie Barrett Carter.

Taylor and Co. may view the Wilson trade as an addition-by-subtraction move, but the stats indicate the Bengals can't afford to lose any defensive talent this fall. According to ESPN, Cincinnati entered its Week 10 bye ranked last in the league in yards allowed per game (426.6) and in points surrendered per contest (33.3).

It remains to be seen if star pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson will still be with the Bengals by the time the trade deadline arrives at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Bengals defense understands Brown's frustrations

"They score 42 points, they should expect to win a game," Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt said about the Cincinnati offense on Monday. "We should expect to win a game. That's the standard. We should go out there, be able to hold the offense to one or two stops. That's all it is."

The Bengals will next face the rival Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 16. 5-3 Pittsburgh plays at the Los Angeles Chargers (6-3) this coming Sunday night.
