Bengals Rookie Apologized To Joe Burrow After Near-Disaster At Practice

NFL quarterbacks wear those red practice jerseys for a reason: To make it absurdly clear to even the most confused players not to hit them and risk injuring them.

Unfortunately one Cincinnati Bengals rookie somehow forgot, and quarterback Joe Burrow nearly paid the consequences.

During a scuffle in practice on Wednesday, Bengals rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart bumped Burrow, instantly making everyone's heart skip a beat.

Burrow wasn't hurt, but had Stewart hit him at even a slightly different angle, he probably would've been.

So on Friday, Stewart publicly apologized and said he already spoke to Burrow about it, calling it an accident.

“I said 'You know, Joe, it was an accident. You know I never meant to do that,’” Stewart said.

Burrow was a good sport about it, saying that they were fine as long as Stewart can "do it on Sundays too."

“He said 'It's cool as long as you do it on Sundays, too,’” Stewart added. “He kept it cool and short and sweet, and we just forgot about it.”

But Stewart also made it clear that he knows not to "touch the main guy."

“We know not to touch the main guy,” Stewart said. “I slipped. Next time I should just fall out of the way or something. I learned.”

Injury risks

Throughout his five seasons in the NFL, Joe Burrow's biggest obstacle to being the best quarterback in the league has often been his own health.

He's missed 15 games in his five seasons due to either season-ending injuries or rest. And while he was able to lead the team to a Super Bowl in 2021 and an AFC Championship Game in 2022, the last two seasons have been a struggle for no fault in his own play.

Last season Burrow led the NFL in completions, attempts, yards and touchdowns, earning Pro Bowl and Comeback Player of the Year honors for his efforts.

Will this finally be the year that Burrow and the Bengals can put it all together and win a Super Bowl?
