Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase has scored 49 touchdowns in both regular season and playoff games. Nearly 49 times has he done the "Griddy" in the end zone after putting up six points on the scoreboard.
That will continue, don't worry about that, but as for off the field, Chase told Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr he's asked to do it a lot for fans and isn't too fond of doing it upon requests nowadays.
“I’m not a circus animal,” Chase told Orr.
Chase began implementing the dance as a touchdown celebration during his time at LSU. He had an FBS-most 20 receiving TDs as a true sophomore in 2019, so there were plenty of Griddys to be had that year. The dance was created by Allen Davis when he was playing high school football back in 2018 and it went viral not long after. Davis then introduced it to Chase, who then showed it to LSU teammate Justin Jefferson. Jefferson took it to the NFL in 2020, and Chase followed suit in 2021.
More than just Chase and Jefferson have Griddy'd in NFL end zones over the last five years. Even Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki likes to do his own rendition.

Chase is the reigning triple crown winner and the highest-paid receiver in the league, but for as much dominance he displays on the field, many fans immediately associate him with the iconic celebration more than anything else. It's part of his image, and like most celebrities known for specific aspects of their careers, it's forever attached to him.
Naturally, it gets old after a while.
There will be plenty more opportunities to see Chase to Griddy in the back of your local NFL end zone, but when the pads are off, maybe it's time to let the 25-year old walk around normally instead of tapping his heels.
