The Buffalo Bills , once again, have a chance to unseat the Kansas City Chiefs. For the second time, a Super Bowl appearance is directly on the line.
Buffalo has read this story before. It knows special teams miscues can be catastrophic, how little time Kansas City needs to score, and that anything less than Josh Allen’s best could be the end of his MVP-caliber season.
The Bills must also win along the margins, and that means coming in – and remaining – the healthier team.
Fortunately, the Bills got a key update on linebacker Matt Milano, whose hamstring flared up during the 27-25 Divisional Round win over the Baltimore Ravens.
The update came via his co-star, linebacker Terrel Bernard.
"Going through some of the stuff that he did today, I felt like he looked like normal. Overall, he's looked good," said Bernard, via Alex Brasky. "We're going through it like a normal week. He's prepared like a normal week. We've done our meetings and gone through everything."
Since being named a first-team All-Pro at linebacker in 2022, Milano has played in just 11 games, including the last two rounds of the playoffs.
Thus, he’s missed each of the last two contests against the Chiefs. Kansas City ended Buffalo’s season in the Divisional Round in 2023. In 2024, the Bills found themselves as home victors.
On Sunday, they’ll head to Arrowhead Stadium, asking a lot of their linebackers. Tight end Travis Kelce is a Hall of Famer who seems to level up in the playoffs, quarterback Patrick Mahomes always seems to be just a bit faster than the linebacker chasing him down, and the Chiefs haven’t shied away from running the ball for much of the year.
A shaky Milano could be a vulnerable Milano, and that’s a development Buffalo cannot afford. Bernard remained confident in the star suiting up next to him on Sunday.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to go out there and play with him.”
