Bills’ perfect 2026 NFL Draft trade

Last season was supposed to be the year that the Buffalo Bills finally broke out and won the Super Bowl. The team has arguably the best player in the NFL leading the way in Josh Allen, and with other elite quarterbacks not in the playoff field, such as Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow, there were no excuses for not hoisting the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in franchise history. Despite there being a clear path to the championship, the Bills lost in the Divisional Round.

There is still a championship core somewhere in this roster, though, and the Bills have already gotten to work trying to get better. The additions of Bradley Chubb, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Geno Stone, and Dee Alford should help improve the defense, and the team added a much-needed receiving threat in DJ Moore.

There is still work to do, and the Bills hope to walk away from the 2026 NFL Draft with some immediate contributors. One way to ensure they add players on draft day who can help right away would be to trade for a veteran. So, who is on the trading block that would be a fit for Buffalo?

The Bills should take a gamble on Xavier Legette

Buffalo Bills receive: Xavier Legette

Carolina Panthers receive: 2026 fourth-round pick, 2026 seventh-round pick

The Bills were rumored as a fit for Dexter Lawrence before he was ultimately traded to the Cincinnati Bengals. A move for Xavier Legette wouldn’t be nearly as splashy, but it could still make a lot of sense for Buffalo. The move for Moore was a step in the right direction, but the Bills have had a problem with Allen having a lack of weapons to throw to for too long.

Adding Legette would be another move that takes some of the weight off the shoulders of the team’s MVP. Legette was a first-round pick as recently as 2024, but he has seemingly fallen out of favor in Carolina. Legette has just 84 catches over two seasons with the Panthers. A lack of get-off, explosion, and route-running prowess has prevented the South Carolina product from meeting pre-draft expectations.

The Panthers even drafted another first-round receiver, Tet McMillan, last season, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Carolina started shopping Legette. John Metchie just joined the team, too, and he had great chemistry with quarterback Bryce Young in college.

Legette would be a low-risk, high-reward target for the Bills. There is decent depth behind Moore with Khalil Shakir, Joshua Palmer, Keon Coleman, and Mecole Hardman on the roster. If Legette lives up to his potential, though, he could easily outproduce those players. Coleman has even heard his name in trade rumors, too. He was picked just one selection after Legette in the 2024 NFL Draft.

For just a fourth and a seventh-round pick, trading for Legette would be worth the gamble for Buffalo. While Moore is slated to be their top option, he is arguably already past his prime, and he alone doesn’t provide Allen with ample targets on the roster. Legette is a physical receiver who can really thrive with the football in his hands. At the worst, Buffalo can use him as a gadget weapon, which would give opposing defenses yet another thing to think about when Allen and James Cook are already so hard to game plan against.

If Legette reaches his potential, though, the Bills would be getting a first-round caliber receiver for the price of late-round draft capital. They could even consider a swap of Coleman for Legette, where a change of scenery could be beneficial for both players.
