Bo Nix had a strong rookie season in 2024, leading the Denver Broncos to a 10-7 record and their first postseason appearance since 2015. The 12th overall pick in last year's draft finished third in the 2024 NFL AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting, trailing Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers.
Broncos leadership revealed that Nix's presence on the roster played a role in their free agency. Dave Althouse of KDVR Denver shared comments from head coach Sean Payton, who stated:
I think we’re a team players want to play for. I think certainly we’re a city that’s very appealing to athletes. I think a lot of that is a result of maybe some of the early success we had last year with the young quarterback.
General manager George Paton added:
It’s always nice when players want to be here. Now, we didn’t get all our players, but we feel good with where we’re at. It all starts with ownership and the head coach, then, obviously, when you have a young quarterback, players want to be here.
Nix threw for 3,775 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions during his rookie season. He completed 66.3% of his pass attempts while adding 430 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 92 carries.
The Broncos' offense took a significant step forward in 2023. They ranked tenth in scoring offense, 19th in total yards, 20th in passing yards, and seventh in passing touchdowns. Denver made several big moves in free agency, signing Talanoa Hufanga, Dre Greenlaw, and Evan Engram.
