Former ESPN analyst Bomani Jones has fired up a debate this weekend regarding Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.

After revitalizing his NFL career on the Minnesota Vikings in 2024, Darnold signed a three-year contract with the Seahawks and immediately helped the franchise win a Super Bowl. He completed 67.7% of his passes during the 2025 season for 4,048 yards with 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Some people have suggested that Kyler Murray could be the "next Sam Darnold." Although the No. 1 pick has enjoyed more success in the NFL, his career has taken a hit over the past few years. Now, he's got the chance to rebuild his value in Minnesota.

Jones, however, isn't exactly a fan of people comparing Murray to Darnold. He thinks the former Arizona Cardinals quarterback is clearly superior when it comes to playing the position.

"Everybody is like, 'Can Kyler Murray be the next Sam Darnold?' When the hell did Sam Darnold get as good as Kyler Murray," Jones said. "I know people like him, but I would much rather have Kyler Murray be my quarterback than Sam Darnold."

Is Bomani Jones out of line for this?

Judging by the responses on social media, NFL fans would rather have Darnold over Murray.

"You both showed no data, facts, clips of what you two are talking about, etc. You based your take on vibes and words; that's the crazy part about this clip," one person replied.

"So lemme get this straight… Darnold has zero playoff turnovers, murders the Rams in the NFCCG and WINS THE SUPER BOWL," a fan said. "But you'd much rather have Kyler Murray."

"Darnold has now had 2 seasons, back to back actually, better than Kyler has ever had," a second fan wrote on X.

"Genuinely terrible ragebait," another Seahawks fan declared.

At the end of the day, Darnold is a Super Bowl champion who had arguably his best performance in the NFC Championship. Murray might be a better individual talent, but he doesn't even have a playoff win on his résumé.
