The Minnesota Vikings have added quality veteran help in the secondary, signing safety Bobby McCain, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
McCain, 30, spent last season with the New York Giants but played the first six seasons of his career in Miami, Brian Flores was the Dolphins’ head coach for three seasons and the pair will now reunite in Minnesota in Flores’ second season as Vikings defensive coordinator.
Through his first nine seasons, McCain has pulled down 11 career interceptions with 394 total tackles, four sacks, 45 pass breakups and six tackles for loss.
In limited playing time last season, appearing in nine games for the Giants, McCain tallied just one tackle with one pass deflection.
In Minnesota, thanks to his versatility, McCain could ultimately wind up playing cornerback where he may have the quickest path to a starting job.
Likewise, in addition to his impact on the field on game days, McCain’s experience in Flores’ system could give him the ability to be a coach-on-the-field throughout training camp and into the regular season for younger players in the secondary.
