The Washington Commanders offense looks a far different proposition when running back Brian Robinson Jr. is doing his thing.
The bruising and brutal runner is a key cog in Kliff Kingsbury's offense, and when he isn't in the team, the unit suffers mightily, which has coincided with Washington's poor form.
For Kingsbury, when Robinson Jr. is in the game, he does things that not many others can, and he knows that when push comes to shove, he can keep calling his number and the production will follow.
“He's a very talented back, I've said it all along,” Kingsbury said. “He's a guy who doesn't have to be blocked perfectly for him to fall forward and get you five or six [yards], and so that doesn't help [when he's out], there's no doubt. But I think we can play at a really high level without him, but he definitely makes us a better offense when he's in the game. We can consistently lean on him to finish runs and finish downhill and avoid negative plays.”
The Commanders did manage to win against the New York Giants without Robinson Jr. but then lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers without him in the lineup, and his first game back from injury was against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he played his role, but clearly wasn't 100 percent.
Against the Dallas Cowboys, Robinson Jr. again didn't look right after a nasty leg twist, which left him only having five carries for 13 yards, and Washington's offensive production severely suffered as a result.
If the Commanders are to get themselves out of this hole, then Robinson Jr. is going to have to do some heavy lifting, and with Austin Ekeler ruled out of the Tennessee Titans clash, it could be all on B-Rob who is dealing with an ankle issue to carry the load.
