Brian Schottenheimer hints Cowboys QB cadence could be changing

We recall Dallas Cowboys fans getting a big kick out of hearing Cooper Rush try to replicate Dak Prescott's 'Here We Go" cadence for the first time. And with that in mind it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that new head coach Brian Schottenheimer is looking to rework- or maybe completely scrap - that cadence.

Dak pulled it off well, but there's no doubt it's a tough cadence to replicate.

The last thing you want is your offense second-guessing the man under center before the ball is even snapped — whether it’s because his cadence sounds unsure, off-rhythm, or just flat-out less commanding. If the tone doesn’t inspire confidence, you’re already losing ground before the play even begins. And you better believe the defense will feel and feed off of it too.

Schottenheimer won’t say what the Cowboys’ cadence is going to be now that he’s calling plays. He was asked about it – then he smiled, dodged, and pivoted like a seasoned politician. But what he did say might’ve been louder than what he didn’t.

“I’m not going to tell you about the cadence,” Schottenheimer said, “but the biggest thing … is getting all the quarterbacks to sound the same.”

And just like that, the “Here We Go!” era might be dead.

As background: The cadence is the rhythm a quarterback uses to trigger the snap — and Prescott’s “Here We Go!” became iconic. It was meme’d, marketed, turned into merch, and gave the entire 2023 offense a weird and fun little identity.

But maybe Schotty wants uniformity. Not personality.

He mentioned new linemen like Tyler Booker and Robert Jones, plus young QB Joe Milton as he stressed how important it is that everyone hears the same voice under center — regardless of who’s playing.

And that’s the giveaway. Because let’s be honest… nobody’s replicating Dak’s exact rhythm, especially that elongated “Gooo!” at the end like it’s part of a pre-snap gospel.

If you hear something different in training camp? Now you know why.

Farewell to “Here We go!”

Welcome to … whatever Schotty has brewing next.
