Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz was one of the key performers in Sunday’s 22-19 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The red-hot Broncos made it eight victories in a row in Sunday’s AFC West divisional showdown against Patrick Mahomes and Co., who lost their second straight game and fell to 5-5 on the season.
Lutz went 5-of-5 on his field goal attempts against the Chiefs, which were pivotal in Sunday’s hard-fought matchup. The Pro Bowl place kicker settled the game with a 35-yard field goal as time expired.
Thanks in large part to Lutz’s strong performance, the Broncos improved to 9-2 on the season. They remain first in the AFC, tied with the New England Patriots, who are also riding an eight-game winning streak.
Lutz is currently in his ninth year in the NFL and his third with the Broncos. The 31-year-old has played in all 11 games so far this season, registering 17-of-20 made field goals for an 85% field-goal rate.
Lutz first joined the Broncos in 2023 via a trade deal with the New Orleans Saints, where he spent the first six years of his career. Lutz was one of head coach Sean Payton’s recruits from his former team, with Denver sending a seventh-round pick to New Orleans in exchange for the former Georgia State Panthers standout.
In 2024, Lutz signed a two-year, $8.4 million extension with the Broncos, which would have kept him in Denver through 2026. The Broncos, however, want Lutz to stay beyond that, which is why they have decided to extend his deal.
Senior reporter Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported on Friday that Lutz has a new deal in place with the Broncos.
"The #Broncos and kicker Wil Lutz have agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension through 2028, per @tompelissero and me," Rapoport posted on X.

The team’s announcement follows Lutz’s AFC Special Teams Player of the Week win for his performance against the Chiefs. He totaled 16 points in the victory, including the game-winning field goal. Before that, he also recorded a game-long 57-yard score with 4:10 remaining in the fourth quarter to tie the contest at 19-19.
Lutz will now want to keep it going in Denver’s next game. The Broncos get their bye in Week 12, but will be back in action on Nov. 30 against the Washington Commanders. That will be a road matchup for Denver, with kickoff from Northwest Stadium scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET.
